Deep Creek Cemetery
Volusia County, Fla.
This cemetery is located east of Lake Helen in the woods in the
abandoned town of Rogers, Fla., It was abandoned in the 1940's when they removed
the railroad going through the town, It was the only way to get to Lake Helen.
From the picture you can see there is nothing left of the town or cemetery,
Quinton Wilkins and old timer who was born in Lake Helen told me where it was
but when I got there from Aerial photo's from 1952 taken by the county I was
disappointed to find no sign of the town or cemetery, The aerial photographs
show the houses and a dairy east of them. Quinton said when he was young he
visited the town and remembers about 50 burials in the Cemetery.
I have my gr-gr-grandmothers death certificate stating she is buried there and I
was attempting to find out if she had a headstone.
If anyone knows of any other
burials there let me know and I will add them to the list.
Her parents Redding N. and Susanna Overstreet Long lived 2 miles west of the
Cemetery and it may be possible they are buried there also.
