Lillie Desaussure

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Lillie Desaussure, 91, a former resident of Orange City, died Jan. 20, 2004, at her home.

Born in Orange City, Ms. Desaussure was a domestic worker.

She was a member of Mount Zion AME Church in Orange City.

Ms. Desaussure is survived by one son, Calvin of Syracuse; five daughters, Minnie Elliott of De Land, Betty J. Durant of Orange City, and Maggie Williams, Mazarine Boatman and Mattie Clyde Stafford, all of Syracuse; three sisters, Magdaline Butler of Sarasota, Ruth Shaw of Kansas City, Mo., and Birdie Mixon of Daytona Beach; her twin brother, Willie Desaussure of Orange City; and 28 grandchildren.

Arthur Mack was in charge.

Lovell Beatrice Eleby

ORANGE CITY - Lovell Beatrice Eleby, 89, of East Blue Springs Avenue, died May 14, 2005, at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Arthur Mack Funeral Home, 797 S. Stone St. in De Land, and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at Mount Barrien Primitive Baptist Church, 289 E. Blue Springs Ave. in Orange City. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. May 21 at Mount Barrien Primitive Baptist Church. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Orange City. The repast will be in the Mount Barrien Primitive Baptist Church Dining Hall.

Born in Orange City to the Rev. James and Agnes Eleby, Ms. Eleby attended King Vocational School, and also attended Bronson High School in De Land.

She lived in Wilmington, Del., with a cousin, Anna Coleman Bolden and Anna's husband, Charles, and, for a number of years, worked as a parlormaid for C. Douglass Buck Sr., a former governor of Delaware, and his family. She later worked as a private-duty housekeeper for two other families, until Ms. Eleby returned to Orange City in 1990.

In Delaware, Ms. Eleby was a member of Mother A.U.M.P. Church, as it was named then, where she served as chaplain of ministers and daughters, and as president of one of the choirs. She was also a member of Pocahontas Temple No. 60.

After returning to Orange City, she became a member of Mount Barrien Primitive Baptist Church. She was appointed senior deaconess on the church's Deaconess Board, and faithfully served the church until her death.

Ms. Eleby was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Frank W. Taylor, one granddaughter, Lovell T. Green, and her grandson-in-law, Ray Green. She is survived by one daughter, Doris L. Taylor of Orange City; one grandson, James B. Taylor and his wife, Joyce, of Orange City; eight great-grandchildren, Terrance D. Taylor, Anwar Green and Jabir Green, all of Orange City, Glenn Taylor of Tarpon Springs, Ray Green and his wife, Darcy, of Memphis, Tenn., Twynette Green of St. Petersburg, Jamal Green of De Land, and Byran J. Taylor of San Antonio; nine great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Arthur Mack Funeral Home was in charge.
