PINEWOOD CEMETERY
Daytona Beach, Fla.
Located on a part of the homestead purchased by. John W. Smith in 1873 which he named
Memento. His daughter Alena Beatrice who died April 15, 1877 was the first buried in the
cemetery. Locally referred to as " Boot Hill", This historic cemetery has been
the victim of vandalism and neglect. The local Zangi Grotto have adopted Pinewood and have
installed gates that are locked each night to help protect the graveyard. Many of the
tombstones have been damaged or have graffiti spray painted on them. I have been using an
old listing made in 1958 by the D.A.R. to fill in the stones that are now unreadable. The
cemetery is located at the corner of Main Street and Peninsula Avenue, Daytona Beach,
Volusia County, Florida. 11/13/98
