Prevatt Settlement/Old Camp/Wells Cemetery
Lake Helen, Volusia County, Fla.

This is an old cemetery located in Lake Helen, Fla. That is abandoned and not in use any more, It is surrounded by homes and a fernery without an access road on Johns St.
The WPA Civil War survey in the 1940's for veterans buried in Volusia County called the cemetery "Old Camp Cemetery" and lists "Peter Rawlins" Civil war soldier as being buried there.

Daphne Brownell found William W. Rawlins and his wife Epsia Sheffield are also buried in the Cemetery but it was called the "Old Wells Cemetery"
William Rawlins was Peter Rawlins brother and a CSA Soldier and son's of Benjamin and Darcus Ann Rawlins who are buried there.

Dorothy Schneider a local historian for Lake Helen said the name was Prevatt Settlement and there was a Prevatt Church located near the cemetery that burned in the late 1800's.
There were many funeral home markers that have been stolen and only 4 headstones left for the many that were buried there, Of the 4 headstones that still exist 3 are my ancestors that were buried there in the 1800's and I suspect I have more relatives there that do not have headstones.
I have submitted this cemetery to the State of Florida task force for Abandoned and neglected cemeteries.11/12/98
