The following are obituaries of some of the person’s buried in the Lake Helen/Cassadaga cemetery.

 

MRS. MARY CHURCHWELL 

Mrs. Mary Louise CHURCHWELL, 51, of Cassadaga, died Saturday at Fish Memorial Hospital.

Born in Yellow Springs, Ohio, Mrs. CHURCHWELL moved to Cassadaga six years ago from Hungtington Beach, Calif. She was employed at De Land Country Club and was a Protestant.

Survivors include one son, James Russell WALKER of Arleta, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Deloris D. QUINTANA of Santa Monica, Calif., and three grandchildren.

GLADYS BAUER 

Gladys BAUER, 58, 520 Lakeview Ave., Orange City, died Sunday at West Volusia Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. BAUER was born in Maryville, Tenn.  She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Orange City.

Survivors include her husband, Edwin; her mother Mrs. B.A. CARVER, Orange City; three daughters, Mary Alice LANGFORD, Orange City; Virginia GRAY, Ocala; Bonnie BAUER, Orange City; two sons, Luther PIERCE, Orange City, and Edwin G. BAUER, De Land; three sisters, Cecil WILKINS and Bea WARREN, De Land, and June STRICKLAND, Orange City; four brothers, Allen James CARVER and T.R. CARVER, Orange City; and John M. CARVER and Billy Jack CARVER, De Land; and 12 grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Lankford Funeral Home’s Chapel of Memories.  The Rev. Floyd JENKINS will officiate.  Burial will be in Lake Helen Cemetery.

MRS. ANNA FALKENBERG 

Mrs. Anna Marie FALKENBERG, 88, a former De Land resident, died Wednesday in Momence, Ill.

Mrs. FALKENBERG was born in Chicago, Ill.  She is survived by a son,   Herman C. KOOP, Jr.,  of Momence and a sister, Mrs. Carla F. UTERMARK of Home Wood, Ohio.

BROOKS, MARY M. 

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary M. BROOKS, 80, of 428 Mass. Ave., Cassadaga, FL, who died Thursday, Dec. 25, will be on Saturday, at 11 a.m. in the Lake Helen Congregational Church with Rev. Leon DICKSON officiating.  Survivors include her husband Pierce J. BROOKS of Cassadaga; son, Douglas HAGADORN, Orange City; sisters:  Faye PATCH, Topeka, Kansas, Viola PENRY, Meridan, Kansas, Pearl MARKS, Topeka, Kansas; brothers:  Lewis COOK, Millard COOK, Topeka, Kansas, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  Mrs. BROOKS was a resident of Lake Helen for 55 years and was a member of the Lake Helen United Church of Christ Cong., the American Legion and Royal Neighbors.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.  Burial will be in the Lake Helen-Cassadaga Cemetery.

FRANK L. HERZOG 

Frank L. HERZOG,   69, of 22 Park St., Lake Helen, died yesterday in West Volusia Memorial Hospital.

Born in New York State, Mr. HERZOG lived in Lake Helen for about three years.  He was a retired bulldozer operator.

Survivors include his wife, Reva, of Lake Helen; five daughters, Mrs. William HANSTINE and Mrs. Constance WARMUTH, both of Lake Helen, Mrs. Mary BEDELL, Auburn, N.Y., Mrs. Barbara LEESON, Venice Center, N.Y., and Mrs. Judity JONES of Cook Falls, N.Y.; three sons, John, of Jacksonville, N.C., Robert of Woonsocket, R.I. and David, of Hancock, N.Y.; and 44 grandchildren .

HERZOG SERVICES 

            Funeral services for Mrs. Reva L. HERZOG, 70, of 22 Park Street, Lake Helen, who died Thursday, will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Lankford Chapel of Memories, with Brother Theodore WARD officiating.

            Burial will be in Lake Helen Cemetery.

BRIGHT HINSON 

            Bright HINSON, 81, of 1000 N. Stone St., died Friday in a local nursing care center.

            Native of North Carolina, Mr. HINSON had lived in Lake Helen and De Land for the past 30 years.  A retired landscaper, Mr. HINSON was a past member of the First Baptist Church in De Land and a member of the Elwood Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C.

            Survivors include his wife, Leila, of De Land; a son, Robert of Columbia, S.C.; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth KOHLER of De Land; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

            Graveside services for Mr. HINSON will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Lake Helen-Cassadaga Cemetery, with the Rev. R. Grady SNOWDEN officiating.

MRS. INA HYDE 

Mrs. Ina E. HYDE, 84, of Lake Helen, died Saturday in West Volusia Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. HYDE was born in Clayton, GA., and was a member of Blake Memorial Baptist Church in Lake Helen.

She is survived by a daughter,   Mrs. Eleanor SORENSON of De Land.

Funeral services for Mrs. HYDE will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Blake Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Burt WORTHING, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Lake Helen-Cassadaga Cemetery, with the Lankford Funeral Home of De Land in charge of arrangements.

TREVA JOHNSON 

Treva Jean Johnson, five-month-old infant daughter of Mr. And Mrs. David R.  JOHNSON died Wednesday in the family home on Kicklighter Road. 

The baby was born Dec. 10, 1977.

In addition to her parents, the infant is survived by a brother, Gregory, and a sister Tracy, of Lake Helen; paternal grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Arthur SEYFRIT of Lake Helen; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Imogene DANCY of Springfield, MO., and maternal great grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Glen NIELSON of Mountain Grove, MO.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bernice H. JETER, 68, of 208 S. Massachusetts Ave., who died Thursday, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Allen-Summerhill Mmorial Chapel.  The Rev. James CARPENTER will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Don RAMSEY, Robert RAMSEY, Jack BROWN, Dean GATCH, Charles WARREN and Floyd JOHNS.

Burial will be in Lake Helen Cemetery.

RUSSELL W. KILCOLLINS 

Russell W. KILCOLLINS, 81, died Monday at his home in Cassadaga.  Born in Monticello, Me., he had been a Cassadaga resident for 16 years.  He lived at 28 Stevens St.

He was a Protestant, a member of the American Legion Post 127 of Lake Helen and a veteran of World War I.

KILCOLLINS was retired from the General Electric Co. at Everett, Mass.  He is survived by his wife,  Mrs. Elinor N. KILCOLLINS, and a sister, Mrs. Ida CUMMINGS, Manahawkin, N.J.

ELMER LEFFEW 

Elmer LEFFEW, 56, of 29 Washington St., Lake Helen, died Saturday at his home.

Born in Chattanooga, Tenn., Mr. LEFFEW, a World War II Army veteran, lived in Lake Helen five years.  He was a member of the American Legion.

            Survivors are his wife, Ruth; a son, James of Lewisville, N.C.; a step-son, Roger HUDSON of St. Petersburg; a brother Wilbern LEFFEW of Columbus, GA; five sisters, Bessie, Mary and Rosalie, all of Chattanooga, Maude of Alabama and Mary of Michigan; and two grandchildren.

            Friends may call at the George A. Carpenter Funeral Home in De Land from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.  There will be American Legion services at 7 Tuesday evening.

SARAH LAWRENCE 

Mrs. Sarah E. LAWRENCE of 717 Macy St., Lake Helen, died Monday in Carol’s Care Center in De Land.

            She was a native of Michigan and had lived in Lake Helen for 24 years.  She was a Seventh Day Adventist.

            Mrs. LAWRENCE is survived by a stepson,   Charles LAWRENCE, of Winchester, Ill.

MRS. DOROTHY McFARLAND 

Mrs. Dorothy McFARLAND, 75, of 16 Marion St., Cassadaga, died Friday in an area nursing home.

            Born in Newark, N.J., Mrs. McFARLAND moved to Cassadaga 30 years ago from Miami.  She was a retired owner and operator of the Cassadaga Grocery Store.

            She is survived by two sisters, Jeanette GOODWIN of Orange City and Eleanor GOODWIN of Cassadaga; two brothers, Henery GOODWIN of Montville, N.J., and Richard C. GOODWIN of De Land; and nieces and nephews.

            Friends may call at the Lankford Funeral Home in De Land from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

REGINALD McCABE 

Reginald M. McCABE, 78, of 119 Delaware Ave., Lake Helen, died Saturday in the West Volusia Memorial Hospital.

            Born in Poland, Ind., Mr. McCABE had lived in Lake Helen for ten years.  He was a retired baker, a Methodist and a member of the American Legion Post in Lake Helen.

            Mr. McCABE is survived by his wife Nina, of Lake Helen,  and a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn HOLT of DeBary.

            Funeral services for Mr. McCabe will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First United Methodist Church of Lake Helen, with the Rev. Charles WEAVER officiating.  Members of the Lake Helen American Legion will serve as pallbearers.

            Burial will be in the Lake Helen-Cassadaga Cemetery.

RICHARD MOIR 

 Richard Finley MOIR, 57, of 409 Pleasant St., Lake Helen, died Monday evening in Lake Helen.

Mr. MOIR, a truck driver, lived in Lake Helen 30 years.  He was a Methodist and attended Dartmouth University in Hanover, N.Y., and Stetson University.

Survivors are his mother, Lillian MOIR of Orient Point, Long Island, N.Y.; two sons, Mark, of Lake Helen, and Michael, Fontana, Calif; two daughters Marlyn MOIR of Lake Helen and Martricia MOIR of Jacksonville; a brother Robert of Playa Del Rey, Calif; and a sister, Christine LETSON, Orient Point.

MRS. ETTIE OLSON 

Mrs. Ettie OLSON, 58, of Lake Helen, died Friday in West Volusia Memorial Hospital.

A native of Alabama, Mrs. OLSON had lived in Lake Helen for 27 years.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lake Helen.

Survivors include her husband, Glenn; three daughters, Mrs. Alice EDWARDS of Richmond, Mich., Mrs. Nancy TERRY of Orlando and Connie of Duluth, Minn.; four sons, Richard and Roger of Orlando, Hans of Lake Helen and John of Ocala; three sisters, Hortense of Tupelo, Miss., Mrs. Mildred CAMPBELL of Floral City and Mrs. Varnell SHINKLE of Bronson; two brothers, Walter MURPHEE of Detroit, Mich., and Elvis MURPHEE of Tupelo, Miss.; and seven grandchildren.

JACQUES PELLETTE 

Jacques PELLETTE, 61, of Birmingham, Mich., formerly of Lake Helen, died Friday in Birmingham.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Mr. PELLETTE was a member of Friendship Masonic Lodge in Detroit, Mich., and a Shriner.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Lou, of Birmingham; a son, Jerome, Birmingham; and an aunt, Flo MONROE, of Lake Helen.

MARIE POPELKA 

Mrs. Marie A. POPELKA, 81, of Lake Helen, died Monday in West Volusia Memorial Hospital.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. POPELKA had lived in Lake Helen ten years.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy VONDRASCK and Mrs. Ellen STANEK, both of Ohio, and Mrs. Blanche McCAIN of California; two sons, Frank POPELKA AND Bill PUINE of Ohio; two brothers, Otto MAROUS and Lad MAROUS, both of Ohio; 27 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

OSCAR PURDY 

Oscar R. PURDY, 87, of 116 Park St., Lake Helen, died Tuesday morning at West Volusia Memorial Hospital.

A native of Pennsylvania, Mr. PURDY had been a resident of Lake Helen for 26 years.  He attended the United Methodist Church of Lake Helen and was a member of the Lake Helen Shuffleboard Club.

He is survived by two cousins,  Jesse DICKINSON and Edward DICKINSON, both of Lake Helen.

ALICE H. POLEY 

Alice H. POLEY, 49, of Pierson, died Friday in West Volusia Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. POLEY was born in Cassadaga, where she lived until she moved to Pierson five years ago.  She was a Lutheran.

Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Helen A. JONES, of De Land; one son, Thomas SAWYER of Gainsville; one brother, William P.L. JONES of De Land; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy OGDEN, of Anaheim, Calif.

Funeral services for Mrs. POLEY will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Lyle SUCHER of Faith Lutheran Church officiating.

Burial will be in Lake Helen Cassadaga Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Jimmy EDWARDS, Leo ARMSBY, Steve BISHOP, John GODBEE, Jack HARTLEY and Amador GONZALES.

MABEL PRUDEN 

Mrs. Mabel T. PRUDEN of Orange Park, formerly of Cassadaga, died Tuesday in Green Cove Springs.  She was 95.

She was born in Maryland and moved to Cassadaga in 1921.  Mrs. PRUDEN was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in De Land.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. W.B. CHESTERFIELD of Pensacola.  Two nephews J.W. TOLBOTT and Ralph TOLBOTT, both live in Cassadaga.

MRS. GIROUD J. ROBERTS 

Mrs. Giroud J. ROBERTS, 76, of 434 E. Ohio Ave., Lake Helen, died Tuesday in Emery University Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

Mrs. ROBERTS was a native of Lloyd, FLA, in Jefferson County.

Survivors include her mother, Mrs. May GOODRICH of Lake Helen; two sons, Charles O. ROBERTS of Atlanta and Douglas F. ROBERTS of Fontana, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Kathleen LEDBETTER of De Land and Mrs. Lyndall MOIR of Lake Helen; two brothers, James WIRICK of Lloyd and George WIRICK of Monticello; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

MRS. ELLOUISE SHEARER 

Mrs. Ellouise PYLE SHEARER, 72, 1100 E. New York Ave., died of lung cancer Monday at West Volusia Hospital.

A resident of De Land for 35 years, she was of the Episcopal faith.  Mrs. SHEARER was a member of the Elks Ladies and the American Legion Auxillary, having received citations from both organizations for her generosity.  She was a nurse.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. J.B. SHEARER; son, John THRASHER, Merritt Island; sister, Mrs. Fredrica P. WILLIARD, Lakeland, brother, Robert PYLE, Altamonte Springs; granddaughter Theresa, De Land; great granddaughter, Kim, De Land; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be announced.

Burial will be in the Lake Helen-Cassadaga Cemetery.

WILBERT SHAW 

Wilbert C. SHAW, 63, of Bowman’s Trailer Park, DeBary, died Saturday at his residence.

The native of Evergreen, N.C. had lived in DeBary fifteen years.  He was a verteran of World War II, a member of VRW Post 8093 in DeBary, and was a self-employed carpenter.

Mr. SHAW is survived by two brothers,  Arthur T. of Cocoa and Robert M. of Chatahoochee.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Lake Helen Cemetery with VRW Post 8093 officiating.

MRS. GLADYS SIETZ 

Mrs. Gladys SIETZ, 69, of 616 Jennings Ave., Lake Helen, died Wednesday in West Volusia Memorial Hospital.

She was a native of Westfield, N.Y., and had lived in Lake Helen for seven years.  She was a Methodist.

Mrs. SIETZ is survived by her husband, George; two daughters, Mrs. Elenor HICKMAN of Lakemore, Ohio and Mrs. Roberta NICHOLSON of Greentown, Ohio; a son, Glenn TIPTON of Akron, Ohio; a brother J.W. ROBISON of Litchfield Park, Ariz; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Viewing at the Lankford Funeral Home in De Land will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Funeral services will be held for Mr. Irvin Sorenson, who died Monday, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Howard Long officiating.  Burial will be in Lake Helen-Cassadaga Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Bill WILLIAMS, Edwin HOLLAND, Gerald FRIERSON, Jr., Ray MITCHELL, Jack LOCKERMAN and George SIXMA.  The Lankford Funeral Home is in charge.

RAY THRALL 

            Ray Lester THRALL, 81, of 721 Macy Ave., Lake Helen, died Friday morning Veterans Hospital in Gainesville.

            Mr. THRALL was born in Wisconsin and had lived in Lake Helen for 35 years.  He was a Protestant, an Army veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion.

            Survivors are his wife, Katherine, and two sisters, Mrs. Ora DEERWESTER of Ripon, Wis., and Mrs. Grace VOLKTNER of Greenlake, Wis.

            Friends may call at the George A. Carpenter Funeral Home in De Land from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight and from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

CHARLES WOODARD 

Charles WOODARD, 71, of 118 Elvira St., Lake Helen, died Tuesday at his residence.

A native of Illnois, Mr. WOODARD had lived in the area 20 years.  A protestant, he was a member of the Elks in Sanford and was retired from Roehr’s Products in De Land.

Survivors include his wife Blanche; a daughter, Mrs. Betty GUIRRERA of Bayside, Long Island, N.Y., a sister, Mrs. Martha DERBY of Murdock, Ill, and several neices nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the George A. Carpenter Funeral Home.
