Mrs. Vida M. Hunter, 94 of St. Marys, Ga. passed away at Southeast Georgia Health Systems Camden Campus late Friday evening December 18th, 2009.
Mrs. Hunter is a native of Bacon County, Georgia. She was born in Alma on February 10th, 1915 and is the daughter of the late George Washington and Osie Eason Miles. She was a valedictorian graduate of Bacon County High School. After graduation she moved to Atlanta to stay with her Aunt Sally. There she worked in a hosiery mill and would ride motorcycles with close friends after work. In 1937, she married James Floyd Hunter. They moved to St. Marys in 1940 where Floyd helped build Gilman Paper Company. Mrs. Hunter began there as a bag inspector for Kraft Bags, retiring after 28 years of service in the late 70's. After retirement she joined the Pink Lady Auxiliary at the Hospital and was an active member of the St. Marys Baptist Church until she became disabled. When her health deteriorated she moved to Brunswick to live with her daughter and son in law Carolyn and Hubert Harper. Her passions through the years were riding motorcycles, and working with plants and pretty flowers. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and Christian. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Hunter is survived by her daughters, Carolyn (Hubert) Harper of Brunswick, and Gerilyn "Bo" (Franklin) Smith of St. Marys; her son, Eugene Hunter of Brunswick; her grandchildren, Gerald Smith, Thomas W. Vickers, Dennis Smith, and Mark Smith; and 9 great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by her sisters, Bertha Pierce and Jackie Hutcheson and her brothers, Hymon C., Claude J. and J.E. Miles.
The funeral service will be held at 11 AM Monday December 21st, 2009 at the St. Marys First Baptist Church with Pastors' Steven Kegley, Verdel Griffin, Carl Barnhart, and David London presiding. The casket bearers will be Gerald Smith, Thomas W. Vickers, Dennis Smith, and Randy Kennison. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of St. Marys First Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School Class.
Internment will follow in the Hunter plot at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.

On March 20, 2022, following a long illness, Sandra Pennington Allman went home to be with her Heavenly Father. She passed peacefully surrounded by family.
Sandra was born in Springfield, Illinois and raised in Divernon but lived in Port Orange since marrying in 1963. While spending most of her life as a homemaker, she was a talented baker and cake decorator working at the former Markos Restaurant. Additionally, she worked for a time as a dispatcher for the Port Orange Police Department and for Halifax Hospice of Port Orange.
Sandra is survived by her husband of 59 years and the love of her life Gordon, four children, Melissa, Scott, Deric and Chad, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Sandra is predeceased by her mother Ruby Pennington, sister, Barbara Becker and brother, John Becker all of Divernon, Illinois.
There will be a private family service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Advent Hospital Deland Hospice or the American Lung Association.
