[1225] Son of Donald Dexter Van Slyke, a widely known biochemist and author and consultant in that field, and Rena Mosher Van Slyke. The family travelled and lived where his father studied and worked as a biochemist. Kell Van Slyke attended school in Bronxville, New York, Germany, and France. He graduated from Harvard, and also received his M.D. from the Harvard University School of Medicine. He served three years in World War II with the Army's First Auxiliary Surgical Group, then finished his Residency in Richmond, Virginia. He practiced surgery in Garden City, New York, was on the Medical Faculty at Hofstra University, and then the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He married Jean Conway Bibb at her parents' home in Bristol on October 8,1949. They had four children: Linda Lee, 2/8/51, Donald Dexter, 9/53, Peter King, 2/4/55, and Paul Keller, 9/59. His parents and only sister are buried in Geneva, New York.
