CLAXTON - R. Harry Bowen, 80, died Dec. 27 at home. He was a native of Bulloch County and lived most of his life in Evand County. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a businessman and owner and operator of Bowen Laundry and Dry Cleaning for 32 years. He was a former member of Claxton Rotary Club and served on the city council for a number of years. Survivors: his wife, Lucile Miles Bowen of Claxton; and five nieces and nephews, Angie Hodges and Nancy Mooney of Statesboro, Ron Bowen of Atlanta, Dr. Lex Bowen of Sugar Hill, and Susan Brannan of Lawrenceville. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today at NeSmith Funeral Home in Claxton. Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, burial in Brewton Cemetery.

Pearl Godsey Bice
April 2, 1921 - December 12, 2016
Pearl Godsey Bice, 95, of Hixson, Tennessee went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2016.
She was a loving mother who dedicated her life to her family and to her special needs son, Eddie well into her senior years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Sallie Godsey; son, Eddie Eugene Bice and eight siblings.
Survivors include her children, Wallace (Phyllis) Bice, Jr., Morris Wayne Bice Sr. and Marilyn (Tracy) Smith; grandchildren, Shauna Black, James Wallace Bice, III, Michelle E. Bates, Kimberly Smith, Morris "Beau" Bice, Jr., Allen Coffelt, Jr. and John Coffelt; thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to the director and staff of Brookdale Assisted Living for the love and special attention given while, making Brookdale her home. Also, a thank you to Hospice of Chattanooga and her nurse, Laura.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at the funeral home. Funeral services for Pearl will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, December 15 at the funeral home with Rev. David McNabb officiating. Burial to follow the service at Chattanooga Memorial Park.

[8299] William A. Light William Alfred Light, 87, of Route 61, Oak Hill, was pronounced dead on arrival at an Oak Hill hospital Wednesday afternoon of an apparent heart ATTACK. Born Sept 17,1884 In Fayette County, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Light. Light was a retired tim-berman and a member of the Wriston Church of God. His wife, Lee Madgelihe Treadway Light preceded him in death. Survivors include five sons, Leonard, Wriston, Gin, Pineville, La,, Willie and Ira, both of Oak Hill, and Nelson, Daniels; two daughters, Mrs. Louise Ryan, Arlington, Va. and Mrs. Dorothy Hotle, Warren, Mich., a brother, Herman Light, Bud; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Woolwine, Wriston and 22 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday in the Wriston Church of God with the Rev. Norman Foster of Wriston and the Rev. Wade Austin of Oak Hill officiating. Burial will be in High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill. Hie body is at the Dodd-Payne Funeral Home, Fayetteville, where friends may call from S p. m. to 10 p. m. Friday.
