Mrs. Ruth Daniel Shank, 85, of Longview died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 in a Longview nursing home.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Longview with Dr. Laney Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
Mrs. Shank is survived by her husband, Harold "Hal" Shank of Longview; three daughters, Sandra (H.D.) Crisler of Longview, Diane Shank of Shawnee, Okla., and Susan (Bob) Bentley of Greenwood, S.C.; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Richard) Barbee of McKinney, Texas, and Jason (Ann) Kreutziger of Yorktown, Va.; four great-grandchildren, Kate and Olivia Barbee and Lauren and Sara Kreutziger; her sister-in-law, Sara Burns of Atlanta, Ga.; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Phil and Lois Shank of Atlanta; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born Sept. 18, 1915 in Mocksville, N.C., Mrs. Shank attended Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C., and then moved to Atlanta where she met Harold Shank. They were married in Dallas in September 1938 with the Rev. George W. Truett presiding. They lived in Dallas for many years, living for brief periods of time in Atlanta, Mocksville, St. Petersburg, Fla., Murchison, Texas and Valley, Ala. She retired from Reliance Insurance Co. of Dallas in 1971. She suffered a stroke in 1987 and in 1989 the couple moved to Longview to be close to their oldest daughter.
Mrs. Shank was a member of Mobberly Baptist Church in Longview. For many years she was a member of First Baptist Church in Dallas where she was active in the WMU, Sunday school leadership, and was a member of Auxiliary Gideons International. She enjoyed numerous crafts, reading, traveling, exercise and games. She was a loving wife, a wonderfully nurturing mother, a gracious and loyal friend to all and served the Lord gladly. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. She was the daughter of the late James Arthur and Florence Daniel.
Memorials may be made to the Mobberly Baptist Church Building Fund, 625 E. Loop 281, Longview, Texas, 75605.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 1 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
