Dr. Linden V. Blount, 59, of Martinez, GA, entered into rest Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Baptist Medical Center in Fernandina Beach, FL.
He was born in Wichita Falls, TX but resided in the Augusta area for many years. He was a 1969 graduate and valedictorian of Blackshear High School in Blackshear, where he was named an all-state football player. He went on to graduate from Northwestern State University in 1973 and the Medical College of Georgia in 1977. He also attended and played football for the University of Tulsa. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta. He was an avid tennis player and sports enthusiast. He was a loving husband, father, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Leslie Carl Blount and Pearl Roberts Blount; his maternal grandparents, James Jordan and Rene Elms Jordan, and his father-in-law, Clarence C. Woodall, Jr.
Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Carole Blount; two sons, Linden V. "Lindy" Blount II, Brian Linwood "Woody" Blount, both of Martinez; two daughters, Holly Blount Goddard and husband David, Roswell, Kelly Ann Blount, Martinez; his father, Joe Blount, Diana, TX; his mother, Jan Dietrich and husband Burnell, San Antonio, TX, five sisters, Leslie Foret and husband Jamie, Lisa Blount, Sheri McFarland, Jorjan Ruonavar and husband Derek, Laura Hartmann and husband David, mother-in-law; Kathyrn Woodall, brother-in-law; Ray Stanfield, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, from the First Baptist Church of Augusta with the Rev. Dr. Rodger B. Murchison officiating.
Interment will follow in the Westover Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Billy Powell, Craig Jones, Steve Crislip, Ray Stanfield, Wayne Britt, Olis Davis, Joey Carter and R.D. Thomas.

Sallie Rivers' full name was Sarah "Sallie" Dandridge Nickels Rivers. She was the daughter of John and Edna Eliza Bibb Nickels of Montgomery AL. She was a granddaughter of Rev. Peyton and Martha Cobb Bibb, and a great granddaughter of William and Sallie Wyatt Bibb of Elbert County GA, and Thomas and Patsy Martin Cobb of Richmond County GA.
Sallie married William Stratton Jones Rivers, son of Dr. Richard Henderson and Martha Bolling Cox Jones Rivers, and had seven children with him. Their children were: Edna Alberta Rivers Charlton; Lucette Dickson Rivers Green; Lizziemac Rivers Scofield; Carrie Coleman Rivers Pirrong; Martha Bolling Rivers Quin; Thomas Bibb Rivers; and William Jones Rivers.
Sallie's husband, William Stratton Jones Rivers (b: 1 JUL 1847 in Franklin County AL) drowned while serving as a clerk on the steamboat "George W. Wylly", when it struck the Fort Gaines Bridge across the Chattahoochee River (Clay County GA), on the night of Wednesday, 11 APR 1883.
