William Clyde Rhodes
William C. Rhodes, 69, of Palm Coast, FL. passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 comforted by his family. William was born in Orlando, FL on May 27, 1944. He graduated from Leesburg High School in 1962. He later moved to Daytona Beach, FL where he began a long career with Publix as a produce associate and was a well respected store manager when he retired 36 years later. William enjoyed family cookouts, going to Las Vegas, fishing and golfing. He will always be remembered for his ability to make people laugh with his great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Anderson Rhodes and Dotha Hines.
Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years Shelvie; daughters, Cyndi Compton of Mansfield, PA, Sandra Rhodes of Mansfield, PA, Kristina Rhodes of Corning, NY, Billie Matthews of Canton, PA, Bonnie Jarvis of Port Orange, FL, Sandra French of Durham, NC, Deb Thomas of Palm Coast, FL; sisters, Jimmie Cannoy of Wildwood, FL, Louise Shively of Okahumpka, FL; 20 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2013, 4:00PM in the chapel of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road S. Flagler Beach. Interment to follow at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit on Friday, August 9, from 5:00-8:00PM at the funeral home. Oralee Thornton, age 83, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away at her residence on January 31, 2021 after a short illness. She was born in Appling County on November 14, 1937 to Nathan Thornton and Lucy Lemacks Thornton. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Oletha Andrews, granddaughter, Christina Crews, sister, Maudine Topolski and brother, Robert Thornton. She was a member of the Paxton Revival Center.
Survivors include five children Mack Andrews (Sue Ann) of Alma, Mark Andrews (Asia) of Mississippi, Earlene Daniels of Alma, Chirlene Tanner of Baldwin, FL., Avis Gravitt (Randall) of Jacksonville, FL. and Ramona Harden of Indiana; one sister, Wilodean Joiner (Steve) of Jacksonville, FL.; special friends, Sammy Peacock and Linda Morgan; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Monday, February 8th at 2:00 PM at Rose Hill Cemetery with Pastor Steve Dobbs officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the cemetery from 1:00 PM until service time.
