OAK HILL - Johnnie Medders, 74, of Indian Creek Road, a retired painter and aluminum installer, died Friday at home.
Born in Douglas, Ga., Mr. Medders, an Army veteran of the Korean War, moved to this area in 1940 from Baxley, Ga. He enjoyed fishing, shrimping and stock car racing.
Survivors include his wife, Leona; three sons, Robert, Edgewater, Floyd, Clermont, and Kenneth, Alaska; a daughter, Retha Medders, Oak Hill; a brother, Conrad, Holly Hill; three sisters, Josephine Benton and Patricia Carnell, both of Daytona Beach, and Sylvia Bell, South Daytona; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Settle-Wilder, Edgewater, is in charge.

SOUTH DAYTONA -- Billy Ray Whedbee, 41, of Brian Avenue, a plaster applier, was found dead Friday in the Halifax River.
Mr. Whedbee came to this area 26 years ago from his native Knoxville, Tenn. He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church and enjoyed singing and writing songs, walking and reading.
Survivors include a daughter, Katherine J. McCarty, Holly Hill; his parents, Billy and Nancy Whedbee, and a brother, Roger D., all of South Daytona; a sister, Debbie Gainey, Holly Hill; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Faith Baptist Church, 497 Flomich Ave., Holly Hill 32117. Bellevue-Cedar Hill, Daytona Beach, is in charge.
