Mr. Edwin Goldwire "E.G." Fowler, 89, died Saturday evening (January 24, 2009) in Bayview Nursing Home of Nahunta following an extended illness.
He was a native of Alachua County, FL, was raised in Pierce County, but had lived most of his life in Brantley County. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years, Mildred Dean Fowler; a daughter, Patricia Fowler; his parents, George H. Fowler and Ethel Simmons Fowler; and siblings, Charlie Fowler, Willie Fowler, Sr., Dawkin Fowler, Jack Fowler, Avie Sikes, Emily Johnson, and Vera Howell.
He retired from the Outside Maintenance Department of the SCL Railroad in 1985 after 28 years of service and was a life-time member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way.
He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, the Sr. Adult Men's Sunday School Class, the Joy Group, and the Brotherhood and had served as Deacon for many years. He formerly was very active with the church choir and the Senior Adult Choir. He had formerly served 16 years on the Brantley County Board of Education and was a former Board of Director of the Brantley County Farm Bureau. Mr. Fowler loved hunting, fishing and traveling and was a long-time member of the Waynesville Hunting Club.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Lewis Riggins Fowler, Nahunta; three daughters, Linda Roberson (husband Franklin), and Rita Arnold (husband Norman) both of Waycross and Kathy Cox (husband Tommy) of Cartersville and Waycross; two sons, Jerry Fowler (wife Linda) of Waycross and Mark Fowler (wife Susan) of Blackshear; five step-daughters, Linda Jones (husband John) of St. Simon's Island, Gail Herrin. Vickie Chesser, and Linda Morgan (husband Alton) all of Nahunta, and Sandra Schmitt of Hinesville; a step-son, William Hursey (wife Carlene) of Gray. Eight grandchildren, Randy Bennett (wife Jenny) of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Craig Bennett (wife Kim) of Waycross, Jay Fowler of Waycross, Shannon Fowler of Blackshear, Norman Ashley Arnold, II of Waycross, Chris Strickland (fiancé Bridgett English) of Tifton, Stacie Carter (husband Jason) of Waycross, and Keri Fowler of Macon; Nine great grandchildren, a great great granddaughter; Sixteen step grandchildren, Twenty-six step great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday (January 27, 2009) at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Monday evening at Music Funeral Home.
Members of the Sr. Adult Men's Sunday School Class, the Joy Group of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and all former and active members of the Waynesville Hunting Club are asked to gather at the church at 1:30 to serve as honorary pallbearers.

Ruth Elizabeth (Whitford) Meadows

Ruth Elizabeth (Whitford) Meadows, 99, of Ormond Beach Florida passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2020 at Coquina Center, Ormond Beach. She was born October 6, 1920 in Daytona Beach, Florida to James and Lillian (Lindsay) Whitford.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Refuge Bible Fellowship Church in Bunnell, Florida. She was the eldest of eleven children born in Daytona Beach. She graduated from Mainland High School (formally Daytona Beach High School) in 1938. She was an avid reader and a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Daytona Beach, where she taught Sunday School.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Rick) Folsom, and Janis Searle, by her son, Robert "Bob (Deb) Meadows, two brothers, Robert (Addie) and Charles Whitford and a sister Barbara Esser, as well as twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, by seven of her siblings, her husband, Kernis Meadows, and a daughter, Karen Clausman.
Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, July 24th at 10:00 am at Daytona Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions may be made in Ruth's memory to the Refuge Bible Fellowship Church; 2323 N.
