Venanacio A Adriatico,"Daddio", age 105 1/2 at the home he built and had lived in since 1926 in Winter Park, of age related causes on Saturday, December 11, 2004.
He was born in the Philippines and came to this country with only 75 cents and a pair of new shoestring in 1924. His wife of 57 years, Jane W. Adriatico, preceded him death on March 27, 2004. In 1930, Adriatico started a nursery and grew a variety of exceptional plants he developed. He married Jane Witek in 1947, a flight nurse, who both had served in World War II.
He enlisted also and went to boot camp. But, since he was a farmer, he was exempted from serving and received an honorable discharge. He was retired from the Civil Service. He and his wife bought lots surrounding their home over the years, as they became available over almost 57 years during their marriage. They pinched their pennies and you might say literally raided the cookie jar to purchase the lots until they owned the two city blocks surrounding their home or ten acres. The property is located just a few blocks off of Aloma Avenue near Highway 436. They did the same with a prime five acre tract in Oviedo. Mrs. Adriatico was real estate broker and was in real estate most of her career.
Mr. and Mrs. Adriatico is survived by their son, Juan of Paisley, two daughters, Adrienne Adriatico of Sanford and Carmen Clifton of DeLeon Springs, FL. Also, grandchildren Dawn Jensen of Winter Springs, Juanito, Jr. and Alicra Adriatico of Paisley, Kathy Jones of Ft. Lauderdale, Stacy C. Bell of Oviedo, Erin Amate Zebell of Gulfport and one great grandchild, Lauren Jensen.
