GORDON WOODARD DIES
Member of Widely Known Family In This Section: Many friends in Waycross and South Georgia were saddened today by the death of G. Gordon Woodard, 71, which occurred yesterday afternoon at 6:45 o'clock at his home four miles east of Wayross. Mr. Woodard, member of one of the most widely known families of this section of Georgia, had spent his entire life in this immediate section, being recognized as one of Ware county's ablest farmers.
He succumbed after a short illness, having been stricken following church services Sunday before last, eleven days ago.
He was born Nov. 18, 1870, son of Ambrose Woodard and Ardelia Dowling Woodard, life-long pioneer residents of Ware county. He was a brother of the late D.A. "Bub" Woodard, who served for a quarter of a century as Ware county commissioner of roads and revenues. His only sister is Mrs. A.A. Warren, who resided at 815 Morton avenue, Waycross.
Mr. Woodard was a devoted member of the Congregational Methodist Church since boyhood, being affiliated with the Whitehall Church which is located in his community. He served for many years as a steward.
He is survived by his wife; by four sons, Lonnie Woodard, Oscar Woodard, Andy Woodard and Willie Woodard and three daughters, Miss Correne (Corine) Woodard, Miss Ardelia Woodard and Mrs. J.P. Adams of Waycross; one sister Mrs. A. A. Warren of Waycross; also fifteen grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11:30 o'clock at the residence with the Rev. Lee Sweat officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
The Mincy Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
