Edwin Augustus "Gus" Woodall, 83, passed away Wednesday morning, December 31, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Jesup.
A native of Pierce County, he had lived here most of his life. He was a US Navy veteran having served during WWII and the Korean conflict and was also a 1951 graduate of the University of Georgia School of Forestry.
He retired from Hercules in 1987 and had also worked for Del-Cook Lumber Company for many years. He was a former chairman of the Georgia Chapter Society of American Foresters and was a member of the National Chapter Society of American Foresters. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a son of the late Clarence and Lauree Taylor Woodall. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Iris Walker Woodall.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Miriam and Cleve Harden, Jesup; a son and daughter-in-law, Zeke and Marilyn Woodall, Jamestown; a sister, Ruth Branch, Chula; four grandchildren, Justin E. Woodall, Laura W. Blount, Candace Harden and Cassie Harden; two great-grandchildren, Sam Blount and Kara Woodall and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 1, 2009 at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2009, from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
Interment will follow in the Blackshear Cemetery.
The family asks that members of the Coastal Forester Association and members of the Masonic Lodge #270 serve as honorary pallbearers. They are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Epworth Methodist Church, 675 S. Third Street, Jesup, GA 31545; the 2010 Vision Fund at Emmanuel Baptist Church, PO 407, Blackshear, GA 31516 or to First Baptist Church, 670 Main Street, Blackshear, GA 31516.
